Excellent grammar in my subject line there, but nonetheless true..

Gencon was sadly cancelled this year due to 'the global financial crisis' - saddening! as i was starting to prefer it to supanova.. less people since less knew about it, more space to walk around, much nicer surroundings at the southbank convention centre, better food, and guests you can actually 'get' to without lining up for 7 hours.

Two things i'd like to point out up front though..
1) The people who go to these events are intelligent enough to know that the GFC doesnt actually exist, its a result of morons going 'oh no! crisis' and not spending any money, despite the fact that they are getting the same amount of money day in day out as they were BEFORE it... So less money spent, companies make less, jobs get cut, less moneys had, events get cancelled.... IDIOTS

2) Its only once a year ffs... its not as if that one-off expenditure of $20 is going to completely bankrupt someone and leave their cat homeless.

Society, as individuals you are fine, as a whole you are what can only be described as Touched in the Headspace

You're wrong about the GFC. The banks all lend to each other, as soon as the first American ones started to fall down every bank in the world went in to panic mode.

Well if the banks are concerned that their huge counterparties in foreign are going to default on loans, they'll be less likely to loan to high risk domestic investors. This means that there's less money flowing freely in ALL economies, largely due to less investment in business ventures and new projects, lowering employment etc. This then scares the little folk, who start saving in case they lose their job.

Basically, it's all America's fault (big banks and NINJA borrowers! (That's right, ninjas.)

That said Supanova was damn good here in sydney. They even had Twilight ppl which made the day bearable for Sarah. She couldn't understand why I was so keen to meet Eliza Dushku and Dichen Lachman though!

Sadly Supanova's gotten way too crowded, smelly, and its at the RNA which lets face it... is a filthy horror factory of ----e :) The guests are good if you can get to em, but on the by and whole Gencon so far has actually had a very comparable list (Robert Picardo, Alan Tudyk etc) plus in Q/A you get to actually talk to em rather than being stampeded under a flurry of 15 year old overweight men.

As for twilight, the entire cast and crew can drink five litres of motor oil and pass out in a stairwell. Thats basically where i see their careers going when suddenly in a couple years all the people who watch it discover Buffy and go 'hey... Vampires used to be cool!'
